The world had suffered because of infamous people like Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, or even Kim Jong Il of North Korea. In the year 1997, there was a French man named “Rael” (Claude Maurice Marcel Vorilhon) who came up with an outrageous theory that the ultimate power of living forever was through cloning, and made a company called Clonaid. The company had claimed that a clone of “Eve” was living in Israel. There is no way to tell if the clone is true or not, but the world was in shock from hearing this proclamation. The people listed on the top are prime example of negatively influencing the world today.
On the other hand, there are many people who have influenced the world in positive ways. On February 20th 1951, American Missionary who had influenced Korea in modern times by the name of HanKyung Won (better known by his American name, Horace Horton Underwood – born in Seoul, Korea) had passed away at the age of 61. He was the son of Horace Grant Underwood (Won Doo Woo) who was the first Presbyterian missionary to Korea. Dr. H.G. Underwood had not only passed the good news, but also had translated the Bible in Korean and had poured his entire strength and soul into planting many churches throughout Korea. He had opened the first Korean Presbyterian church called the “Saemoonan Church”. His son had opened his house and had Bible studies so that many of the laymen in Korea would grow in their faith and to spread the gospel even further out. The Yeonhee Professional School opened by Dr.H.G. Underwood had become the famous Yeonsae Univesity and his son, Dr. H.H. Underwood was the 3rd president to raise higher education throughout Korea.
Meanwhile in the United States, it has been the 300th year since the greatest Christian leader and philosopher Jonathan Edward who had started the “Great Spiritual Awakening Movement”. He was born October 5th, 1703. He was a 3rd generation of the Puritans who had escaped the persecution from Great Britain back in 1640. So it was about 80 years after when the Puritans had left England in 1620, during the reign of King Charles I. Many historians agree that Jonathan Edward’s work in his “Great Spiritual Awakening Movement” had spread through the hearts and minds of everyone at that time, and to this day America was able to be standing like thusly. He had affected the entire United States, while serving as the president of Yale University, and there are many celebratory occasions and national scholarly seminar day.
Many of the great Christian workers had one thing in common: the change of heart. It was through God’s calling that they were all able to change, obey, and be passionate for it. Their focus was primarily on following the gospel and to act upon it, and to pass it. In the year 1721, almost 100 years after the Puritans left England; 17 year old Jonathan Edward had experienced the grace of God, and had a huge change of heart. So did the famous reverend, Albert Benjamin Simpson (who had started the C&MA ministries) who had met the Savior, the sovereign, the Great Healer and the second coming King. They all had lived in obedience to the Word.
It is said that the immigrant churches would become dry, and superficial, but I pray those things would become wiped out. As we celebrate the 100th year in immigration, many of our associated churches would rise and raise new leaders. I pray that many of the churches would flame in “spiritual awakening movement”
In the bible, the sin had started when Adam fell. God had called upon Abraham to be the ancestor of the nation of Israel and to be the center of all the blessings. God had sent his only son to save all the humanity from sin. It shows how one person can influence the world.
While I was working as the superintendant of the Korean District, I noticed every single one of the reverends here are of value. I notice how a single reverend can be of such influence to the saints he shepherds.  I pray that each of the reverends would become the positive influence and be the beacon of light to the nation. Apostle Peter said that the leader of the flock is likes so in 1 Peter 5:2-3.
“Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly, as God would have you; not for shameful gain, but eagerly; not domineering over those in your charge, but being examples to the flock.”
I hope and pray, and wish that every one of associated pastors would be a changed worker, and be a great influence to the next generation, raising and taking care of them.
